Most important difference when working with a '98 is the rear cover on the block. It, as well as the gasket are specific to a '97-'98 block.

If you need to buy the castings 1st then just buy a set of T/F "AS CAST" heads from TEA and have them milled for your Combustion Chamber...

Certain engine options didn't use them.
You're correct on the 73 and up model year. Judging by the hood catches it isn't later then a 1976 model year.
