that's why i wouldn't ever live in nj. Â*My mortgage payment for my house with taxes in pa is probably lower than most people's taxes alone in new jersey.

depends on where you live. Â*you don't have to live in the sticks to buy a house for $73k (now worth $165K) with yearly taxes only slightly over 2k. Â*i get by monthly for about $800, which is considerably less than most apartment rents. Â*and people think you need to have big bucks to afford a house...
|
you said it right there yourself. Â*You can't buy a place there for 73k anymore i'm sure where you are. Â*
but that's not bad, you're not all that far off of where i am. Â*You probably just got in at the right time a few years back I'm guessing. Â*The difference is you can still get deals like that here. Â*
And I'm far from in the sticks. Â*the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area of pa is definitely some of the highest property value in pa because of proximity to nyc and philly, not to mention it's one of the more populated areas in general. Â*I think a lot of people have the impression that all of pa is farms and woods, not this area at all.
|
i know where you are, and i can remember when it was sticks. Â*my bad. Â*i know not all of PA is sticks, just thought you were in them.
yep, it was the right time. Â*as you can see from the approximate value now, it's not very easy to do anymore in this vicinity. Â*but, the deals can still be had. Â*handy with a hammer and saw? Â*can you plaster and paint? Â*throw a roof on a joint? Â*yeah, you can still find the fixer-uppers.
the only thing that hasn't changed much recently is the taxes. Â*and considering one of the neighbor towns (TR) they can be unbelievable. Â*i've heard they start around 4k per year, double what i am paying now.

I was going to buy a house about a year and a half ago but then I got a new job and couldn't get a good mortgage because of the job switch, I was told you should be at a job for at least 6 months before applying for a mortgage. I could kick myself in the ass now that the prices have gone up, the places I looked at then compared to now(same areas, same type of house) are about $75,000 more expensive. And the taxes.....grrrr. Stupid New Jersey. I've recently been looking at some HUD homes, a family friend is involved in the resell aspect of them. Some of the HUD homes are ridiculous, need way too much work, but some of them aren't too bad. I'm just waiting for the right one in the right area to pop up and then I'll be fixing up my house! I helped my dad build an extension into the garage to add a laundry room onto the inside of the house, so I can handle fixing up a house! (as long as dad helps!) I just love New Jersey despite this, I don't think I could ever leave!
