A couple of reasons... one is that they're misaligned, and they put pressure on your other teeth, and that cause cause crookedness later in life... another is if they come in at an angle, they put tremendous pressure on your other teeth causing severe pain (this is why I had mine removed).
I'm sure there are other medical reasons, but these are the only two I know of offhand.
