The pope can also eat on his own...they are running a feeding tube through his nose and into his stomach to increase calorie intake to aid in his recovery. His feeding tube is not sustaining life.

Not yet. He has trouble swallowing, mostly because of Parkinson's. It will continue to get harder and harder for him to swallow, and thus the tube will be sustaining his life. This will soon be the same situation all over again, minus that he won't be in PVS.
