The line for the 6spd GTO was two times as long as the auto, same goes for the C6. My dad sat in the C6 line, but you cant go past 2nd gear. I do drive stick, but not as well as I would like too.
As an auto fan, and for the 3 seconds that you will be driving the car, you dont need much else. The C6 and GTO were the only manual cars there, as well as the CTS-V of course.
By feeling faster, I mean that the car had more balls at take off. Possible difference with a different first gear, but the car just felt generaly faster and I wasnt even driving it.
