It just makes communication between teh different modules simpler. Instead of there being one wire going from mod-A to mod-B and From mod-A to mod-C, There is a central "hub" where all the info is interchanged so there are less wires. some of the wires can work in two directions too. mod-a sends a signal to mod-b on wire 666 and mod-b sends a signal back on the same wire.
