Head work should be high on the list, the heads on those motors are junk. Some people have done a head and intake swap from the FWD 3400 motors and had pretty good success. You might want to look into that.

The 60* v6 is a very durable motor, so it's a good base to build on. Plus they have a better sounding exhaust than those crappy 3.8s
