When I had 3.73s and the auto in the Monte (stock 26" tall tires), I used to shift around 5K rpms, and would have to shift into OD just before the traps (otherwise she woulda been screaming). With the 4.10s and stock tires, is there enough room on the track to leave it in 3rd assuming a 5200rpm shift point? He might cross the finish line a bit higher.
thats another option but for street purposes most of us leave it in OD so we are going to adjust it slightly...apparently he's swinging by here tonight again so hopefully he'll be taken care of with no further problems.
