driver's ed was a class in school, and driving school was seperate from school, and thats when you tool the road driving lessons.
Anyway, if you take driving school (6 hours of on-the-road time) you can get your provisional license after 6 months of having your permit, but the catch is, you must be at least 17 to have your provisional. So when you take your permit test, you want to be 16 and half, otherwise, you will be waiting a year.
However if you dont go to driving school, then you must have had your permit for a year before getting your liscense.
For instance, I got my permit when I was 16 and a half. I didn't go to driving school, so i waited a year before getting my license (so by that time it was 6 months after my 17th birthday). It wasn't until after i got my license that my dad found out that you can get a discount on car insurance if you go to driving school, so i actually went after i already had my license. But had I gone while i still had my permit, i could have gotten my license on my birthday, instead of 6 months later.
