69 Trans Am tops $100k

Some of you may recall an article from a few months ago, reporting the sale of a 69 Trans Am at an Atlantic City auction. The writer of the article thought the $103k sales price was high and wouldn't be indicative of sale prices for the 69's. It's a one-off. An abberation. First gen Trans Ams were supposed to continue to hover around the $70k-$80k stick price right?

Pontiace Enthusiast magazine reported two 69 TA's selling at Barrett-Jackson for over $100k each. The first, a numbers matching full resto, went for $116k. The second was also a resto, but didn't have the original engine. It went for $106k!!! Without the original engine!

Normally I'd chalk up those prices to being at an auction, and wouldn't set the price for the car at other places. However, being B-J and the sheer number of too-rich-for-their-own-good people out there, I wouldn't be surprised if more hardtop 69's climb up into the lower $120's.

I shouldn't be surprised by this - the low production number should command a high price. But for me, a dyed-in-the-wool Trans Am fan, the first gen TA just got that much further out of reach.
