Al, there have been steps made, but the REALITY is that our economy runs on oil, regardless of whether or not you feel we are just "too lazy" to do things. And, you are wrong when you say that our government is just too lazy. Wasn't it president Bush that spent his whole state of the union address talking about the importance of E85 last year?? I think it is not the fact that our government is just too lazy, rather, they are simply talking about stupid ****, like who one the elections, who stole elections, why we shouldn't be over in Iraq.
In other words, people would rather COMPLAIN about things that they cannot change, rather than talk about things that actually matter and that could change in the future. And a man who does that is unwise.
However, there comes a time when you need to look at things realistically- and looking at the situation realistically brings one equation:
No oil= messed up economy. Oil= good economy. Temporary Solution- get more oil.
Granted, while I would love to have cars run on E85, it just won't happen for many years to come. Even with the steps that companies like GM have made, with the lack of plants that make the stuff, we'd be screwed for the next few years while these plants tried to crop up.

I think theres alot of evidence of a revolution coming here. Many issues including illegal immigration, taxes, government doing everything that NOONE wants done, racial barriers... alot of things. This government is ****ing us up the ass and noone is doing anything about it. Look at our elections... the candidates are pathetic, yet we have to chose. So we chose which seems the lesser of the two evils, and we get screwed either way. Corruption is running rapid and everyones afraid to step up to the plate.
**** IS going to change here, theres no two ways about it. If you think the direction the country is going in is for the good, then you really need to pull your heads out of the dirt and take a look around.
Could you imagine if George Washington was alive today, the state of utter shock he would be in? This country is so far away from how it was started and its not right. Too many Americans died to make this country what it was founded to be, and it seems we have lost sight of that.

Rob, if you feel that way, you should really read up about the properties that this government is founded upon. If we DO have another civil war, it will be because of people who have the attitudes like the one you express above, no offense.
Plus, Washington and the founding fathers would probably be in shock- not because of the fact that our country is so "messed up" as we call it, but because they based this country on the belief in and faith in GOD. Believe it or not, this country was founded on the principle that God exists, and people just do not want to believe that.
I do think that the founding fathers would be surprised with how unlike a melting pot this country has become. That was the old adage- "the US is like a melting pot because everyone comes here and becomes one thing, American."
Now, all we have is a tossed salad. Every group of citizens wants to keep its heritage, so we don't have America, or Americans anymore. There is no sense of unity, because all of the other peoples from around the world want to keep their customs. They don't call themselves Americans. No, they are "African Americans", "Latin Americans", etc etc etc. Until the day comes when our country becomes a melting pot again rather than the tossed salad that it is, we will always have these stupid problems arise.
However, just because disagreements arise, does NOT mean there will be a civil war, period. Things in the United States have grown to be civil- meaning that unless something as severe as slavery appears that both the Democrats and Republicans disagree on, there will not be another civil war. PERIOD.
There are no signs, and anyone who says they should "stock up on firearms", is an idiot and is not doing any research. Like I said above, that attitude will be the attitude that gets us into another civil war if there ever is one again.
