from teh mid 80's through the end of the fox body generation in 93 teh most power any 5.0 mustang was ever rated at was 235hp and that was only teh cobra in 1993. the rest of the cars slowly eveolved from 180hp to 225.
meanwhile the LB9 (305 TPI) was introduced in 1985 and rated at 205/215 depending what source you refer to and the L98(350 TPI) was introduced in 1987 and rated at 225 which moved up to 245 by the end of the third gens in 92.
at that point the f-body moved to the LT1 and the 235hp cobra found itself 40hp behind the base Z28/Formula/Trans Am engine.
