what I did today (56K, make a sandwich)

when I got home from work at noon, I took a nap. but when I woke up, I felt the need to actually do something productive. soooo, I went out into the garage and decided to disassemble my shortblock.

first I had to put it up on the stand, so I busted out my newly acquired engine hoist and threw the L98 motor on my engine stand. first up was removing the timing chain and gears...very easy. then I marked all the rods and rod caps so they wouldnt get mixed up, then I started unbolting. I got all the rods and pistons out without incident...until the last one. I dropped it and the skirt broke. Oh well, I was thinking about getting new ones anyway.

then I took off the main caps and removed the crank. I was pretty impressed, all the bearings in the bottom end had very even wear patterns. I cant say the same for the front cam bearing though, that had a bit of wear on the passenger side.

anyway, I snapped a few pictures...

here is that piston that I dropped

and two more pics just to show what I have laying near by.
