in the new testament, Jesus told the disciples in the last hours with them "But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a sack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one" back then the sword was the best weapon available. Later was the incident where peter cut off the ear of the servant and Jesus told him to put the sword by his side. He only said this because the swords were to protect their own mortal life, not Jesus' because his will was to die for our sins.
