On the other hand we have a southern states where it's hot and humid all the time. People in that state are not interested in walking, they drive from one air conditioned place to the next thus no walking and more twinkies instead.
Twinkies + no exercise= extra fat.

Very good points. People in the more populated areas certainly walk more, but I am not sure if that would explain all of the sections on the east coast that are not fat.
I'm thinking maybe it is related to income and food purchasing. Low fat and reduced fat food is more costly from my experience. It would be interesting to superimpose a map of per capita income over the fat map...
Either that or all of the fat people have a vicious cycle of inbreeding that leads to generations of lardasses.
