unless there's been some new ink upgrades since i worked in a print shop, the only way to get it to show on a dark color correctly is to put a white underlay underneath the color. that's not saying you would be able to tell that its there, its just to give the ink a light color to grab on to. the problem then is the printing cost goes up because its double the printing and two different color inks.
IMO dark gray with black will look awful. Not enough contrast to say a 50% gray to black to make it pop out and say "we're njfboa... biotch" plus, when we go to meets and its a little chilly, i think it looks AWESOME that we all have a unity to us with the black hoodies. if you start adding in the different colors it will look like a big jumble. Look around in the corporate and sports world. Companys and teams update logos, but never colors.
