Pirate has some good info, no doubt, but I wouldn't call it a go-to resource for XJs, like the OP asked for.

BTW, no need whatsoever for a 383 in a little Jeep. The 4.0 is plenty stout enough, and if it's not a 4.7 stroker with supporting mods will usually cost less than to build a sbc and swap it.
