If you want a Cherokee you should only be looking at 91-92 and up. Avoid the late 80's ones unless you have no plans to use it for anything but a daily driver (no offroading or anything) and you can get it for DIRT CHEAP. They are inferior to the later ones in pretty much every way you can think of.
The only thing to look for is that a small number of 87-89s came with a rear Dana 44 stock.
