I heard the GM was thinking about the V8/6/4 again that was tried in 79 and 80. Watch the V8 Camaro will have a V4/hybrid by 2015.

GM has had Displacment on Demand/Active Fuel Management since 2005.
The Camaro Concept has an LS2 that has AFM.
And its not China's nor India's oil consumption that is hurting. Speculation in the oil market has driven up prices of oil based products for some time now. We also dont have enough refineries to process the oil we make now.
GM didnt kill V8's. GM ended thier Ultra V8 engine a DOHC V8 that would replace the Northstar V8 engines in Caddy, and give them a powerful V8 to keep up with the rest of Europe and Asian has to offer.
GM will continue on with the Gen IV and upcoming Gen V V8's for the cars we all know and love
