We've reported in the past that the Ford Fiesta was coming in 2009 to kick off FoMoCo's small-product renaissance, and the automaker has confirmed those rumors with the press release accompanying its new Fiesta. The Fiesta, which will be introduced at Geneva, is destined for global manufacture and sale, including "the Americas," and it will share the name Fiesta in every market that sells it.



Unlike many of its competitors in the small-car segment which have grown in size and weight, the new Fiesta, which is based on the same Mazda-developed B2E platform that underpins the new Mazda2, stands on virtually the same footprint as its predecessor. It's also the second car to show off Ford's "kinetic" design language that debuted with the new Mondeo last year.

There's no word on which engine will be in the US-spec Fiesta, but chances are it'll be the 115-horsepower 1.6-liter Duratec that's the top-line gas engine in the Euro model.
