you should just simply unscrew it. I think i used a large adjustable wrench, I probably didn't have the right size. It shouldn't be too tight, nor should you crank it down, as it's plastic threads.

if you have a full crankcase, it might be a good idea to drain a quart or 2 out, or you can just let it dribble out of the hole.
