Glad to hear you're not too bad off. This is why I don't even consider getting a bike. I have a short drive to work and I'm a perfect candidate for a bike, but I watch the way people drive to work in the morning and head home in the evening and no way I'm gonna get mixed in with that craziness. Wet conditions are another thing entirely, but I've just never been a fan of bikes and I always leave plenty of room for riders near me on the road because they are the ones most at risk.
