But you could make it more functional when building custom. and thats like saying a cold air intake works without putting shrouds around the filter, and without wrapping the pipe ( the pip gets heat sinked, and the filter just sucks in hot air) with a cowl hood, you also need the plate to keep it from breathing in under hood heat, and to allow a smoother flow under the hood. when you see Hemi's, stage 2 olds and pontiacs and such, they have a gasket that seperates the filter from the engine bay heat, and gets more direct cold air. So unless he buys/builds that as well for his car, its not really functioning properly
