The trick to keeping the 10-bolt alive is having no traction. The 10-bolt in my Monte has over 200K on it, still with the original GM 3.73s in it. Only mods to it are a Powertrax No-Slip unit and a T/A Performance cover with the bearing supports in it. I hope it lasts me another couple of years, since I really don't want to replace it. My car doesn't hook for squat though; Continental 245/45 17s don't stand a chance against my ZZ4 clone.
