for me, and only my opinion, i don't think "thanks for your service" really relays the proper sentiment - but that is only for me. you are going to be doing a job i wanted since september 11, 2001. so, not only thanks for your service to our country, but thanks for stepping up to do a job that i physically can't do.
let us know if you need anything once you get there and where to send it, etc. you might find out you need batteries or something that is not coming down thru channels.
of course stay safe - you said you'll be in one of the more dangerous places since the war began. so keep your head down and keep a lock on the enemy. oh, yeah, and GIT SOME!
