I'm confused as to which way that article is supposed to swing you. According to the numbers, the team that wins the toss in OT only have like a 5% better chance of winning...I'd still say that that is so close that the way OT is decided is fair. I actually thought the data would show how unfair OT is because it feels that way, but the math shows it's actually a pretty fair system in the NFL.
