They basically added methanol to it. The one huge downside with ULSD, is that the methanol additive eats away at the rubber and plastics in older fuel systems over time. So you have to redo your entire fuel system to be ULSD compliant. I'm not sure what the cutoff date was, but I know my '87 needs to be redone.
