The carpet has a plastic kind of bonding/backing on it. If you warm it up a bit with a hair dryer you can stretch it a little to help cover the bumps. It doesn't stretch much, but it helps.
Oooooorrrrrrrrrrr............you can just cut the humps out of the car and save even more weight
