As you may already know, recruiting agency job postins rarely if ever give out the employer's name. It always helps to look up the name of the recruiting agency so that you know they are one in the first place. I almost worked for a recruiting agency since I was an HR recruiter, but I didn't have the heart to pull that crap on people like what happened to you in Jersey City. Plus, recruiters are no different than car salesmen or any other type of sales. Their products are the people they recruit. Like a software salesman sells a cheap version of an electronic device, a recruiter sells a below-average skilled worker to a company. They make money off of you and the many others that apply to positions that suck people in, and they don't really care about you if you have to drive an hour to get there and if they never call you back or find a job for you.

But like someone said, it never hurts to go to find out who the company is that the position is for, and try to contact the company's HR dept. and go over the head of the recruiter. But even then, not all recruiters will tell you who the company is because if they do, many people woul go over their heads, and the recruiter would lose out on a sale of selling a qualified job candidate to an employer which puts money in the recruiter's pocket.
