going back to the original post, i had an encounter like that once with a wrx. 3 kids from town were sitting in a parking lot(one had a modded wrx, one had an sti, one had an RX8) and as i drove past one shouted "my cars faster!!! let's race! wanna go?" and so on.

found out 2 months later that kid hit a wall doing 120mph. he was okay but the car was totaled. they weren't bad kids, just reckless.

oh and did i mention i accepted the challenge and destroyed him? none of them ever offered to race again. that was the last and only time i really street raced. i now realize how dumb it was/is. i'm much more responsible and careful now. might do a little pull on the way somewhere for kicks with a friend but thats it.
