weight transfer. with theoretically unlimited grip, the factory 3rd gen torque arm/lower control arm design could put about 75% of the cars weight on the rear axle. The roll center design of the GNX was even better, you could theoretically get 100% weight transfer. Without a front/rear axis you cant get a whole lot of weight transfer. There are best of both worlds designs but nothing is better than a straight axle. And i dont mind the handling one bit. IRS has a huge advantage on bumpy roads and ride quality, and the fact that it can have other than 0 camber, but thats about it.
Edit: when it comes to street cars gear ratio and tires have a lot more to do with it than the suspension design
