Partly because I don't think they could swim that fast with clothes and shoes on and partly because they would probably wait a few seconds to see if he surfaced on his own.
If they did get out to him and he was unconscious they would have a hell of a time swimming back to shore in clothes and shoes while trying to drag their friend back and keeping his head above the surface.
Maybe I'm wrong and one or all of them are paid lifeguards, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.
