Im suprised he walked out with even a bruised rib! He should have felt fine after that impact 
A couple years ago a Ford Explorer plowed into the back of my garbage truck. The explorer was beyond totalled... and the garbage truck had not even 1 scatch on it. U cant **** up solid steel
