as long as the cut is completely closed and the cutting implement is sterilized, there is no problem with that. i've done it many, many times. i've even been closed up with super glue and steri-strips - then all you have to do is wait for the steri-strips to fall off.
staples are the worst, though. and there is no way to remove them yourself without creating more of a problem.
just be careful in the future.
