You'll achieve better progress by reducing rotational weight compared to takign out carpets and what not. Start with lightening up your drivetrain, it isn't free, but it's worth it. If you dont already have:
Aluminum driveshaft
lighter rims
Smaller torque converter
lighter flywheel/flexplate
A/C Delete/ lightweight pulleys
Lightweight rotors
And youd be set. Just my .02
