Get a magnetic wand, have someone push in on the end of the axle, and spin it until the magnet grabs it and slides out. Make sure the spider gears don't take a dump into your drain pan too. I took the C-clips off my 8.25 in the Cherokee this way when I did the rear disc conversion, and it worked out great!
