Theres no doubt that the "self checkout machine" business will be a booming one. The only question is, where are these things made? Where do the components come from? Is this business giving work to people outside of the country?

In a retail setting managers try to keep the lowest amount of employees on hand as possible. In my opinion, instead of having 5 cashiers on hand and 3 people helping customers throughout the store (for example) that store can now have 2-3 cashiers and 5 people out on the floor helping customers or stocking shelves. Not so much "just another person out of work" but just a way to put more people in a different position to help the store.

In a retail store, a person that works only as a cashier isn't benefiting the store much. All they do essentially is collect money for goods purchased. We have the technology now to have a machine do that work. A machine can't rotate stock or help someone choose the paint that they want or give advice for home projects.
