I think it could save more lives. As a representative of "big brother," I've been involved in a few situations in which this could have made my job a lot easier, to say the least. New Jersey's vehicle pursuit policy is very restrictive and, in essence, allows us to chase a car until it stops. And that's only if the car is involved in a serious crime. We can't ram it like you see on the TV. We can't shoot at it. We can't box it in with other cars. Roadblocks must have an avenue of escape (What's the point of THAT?!). And while I'll admit, chasing a car is a rush, there's a million things going on at the same time: Screaming into a radio while trying to control thousands of pounds of car at excessive speeds while watching for every possibility: Someone pulling out of an unseen driveway, someone opening a car door into traffic, the little kid running into the road.
If someone can push a button and shut off a car before this even has to happen, or before it crashes into an innocent person, or one of us, or worse, causes us to crash into an innocent person, I'm all for it.
