Yep, you are absolutely right. Just because you
think your car is worth more than the payout offer, do not expect to get it without supporting evidence.

Perfect example of not being a mushroom. If you feel you are being wronged, speak up and get noticed. I would also imagine that your friend was polite, yet firm in his discussions with the insurance company. Being professional, and
not being sarcastic or insulting will go a long way to making your position seem reasonable.
Also using slang/trendy terms in your speech like "Oh man, this is payout is an epic fail", is sure to clue in the adjuster that you are not sophisticated and can be crapped on accordingly. Which they will gladly do.
