id request your 500 back from the seller. and keep the convertor. then fix it or whatever you wish.
in the end, he still made his 500 plus an extra 345... so he shouldnt care about wanting the part back.
then you can take 300 and have it fixed, of sell it damaged for 100 and buy a different one for say 600 then.
Just tell the seller, since hes getting the total new value refunded, you would like you 500 back to fix the part, claim its 300 repair plus like 75 shipping each way plus $50 for having it packed in a larger, stronger package... so itll cost you 500 to repair hence why you want the 500 back.
see what he says then. If UPS was really giving me back 845 as a seller, id have no problem giving the buyer back his original 500. the buyer would have just made me more money.
