Hit the junkyard and get one out of an '05 Tahoe or similar truck model w/ the 140amp package. Direct bolt-in, no rear bracket, plugs into your existing harness, and no more worries about reliability.
Or just take your dead alt to a mom 'n pop automotive starter/alternator/generator shop for a teardown.
