it was fun to make that one...i designed the interior of the barn with all the dead animals (all were fake...except for the hanging pig which was real!). the satanic alter was cool to create too..
to answer your question about getting into the business...working in film is something ive always wanted to do...so i went to college, got a degree and all that crap...but to be honest with you...the best way to learn was all hands on, on set, and working alongside the pros...knowing no one in the biz, i started at the bottom, basically being a runner (doing errands, and trivial stuff on set), then worked my way up..i currently work with the props, set decor, and art direction...securing/creating them, and ultimately making sure the scene looks aesthetically pleasing. its a very hard business to excel in, but i enjoy the work, and the challenge.
