I LOVED the Cadillac LMP's, I even have a 1:18 scale of the 2000-2001, it was something out of this world, it's ashame they dumped it to focus on Corvette, they were finally getting the puzzle pieces together.
Porsche doesn't want to bother with LMP because they are selling GT class cars like hot cakes, that's how they make a nice chunk of money. Honestly, they've never had much of a factory team, the 917's were split between 3 teams in 1970-71, the 935's were customer cars. Go to any big time historic meet, and there'll be no less then 10 of them. 956's and 962's where joest dipped his toes in the elite that have an overall le mans victory, etc.... The only ones I can recall that were mainly (but still let a few privateers use them) factory backed were 936's and 911 GT1 Evo (

)
I think Porsche realizes they don't have anything to battle the gas mileage the Diesels are getting, and are waiting for a rule mandate that will ban them ( like the rotary motor after the 787B was banned) Or until they develop their own Diesel technology that can compete with Audi.
