Rooting is typically pretty simple - there are several available apps that will do it for you, some work better on certain phones than others. I used Z4 Root on my DX....just installed it, clicked one button, wait a few minutes, phone reboots, and it's all set. My original intentions were to install the Liberty rom (customized version of the OS), but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I also rooted my mom's Nook Color, but that was more complicated (well worth it for any Nook Color owners out there - it's a great budget Android tablet).
