Now the games are so realistic and advanced that we just expect them to come with something better and not be really floored when some new feature is now added. Example is John Madden NFL. When the series first came out, it was like look at the snow, see how realistic the players look. Now you have shadows and 20 different hair styles, you see their breath on a cold field and so forth. There is not a whole lot let for the game design people to come up with because I think they have covered most of the bases and it's hard to get excited when ALL the good games look like your watching them live anyway.



I remember playing Rise of the Triad and Wolfenstein in middle school. I had to turn off the monitor if my parents walked into the room... haha

Madden hasn't changed all too much lately. Mostly just the controls in the past 5 years, but Madden 2005/2006 (last PS2 era) was the best.
