I paid 420 for the Bose system.. I paid 499 for my JVC system and 350 for the Sony system I had before. Both of those systems were 5.1 and had a reciever/DVD player and did not sound as good as this Bose system without a reciever and only 2 speakers and a sub. For the sound that I get out of my 420 dollar system I think its pretty amazing and I dont think for 400.00 there is alot out there that can compare with it. I tend to think that the systems I had before were not the bottom of the line models but a avg-good surround sound systems. If the system I got from Bose is the bottom of the line model then I cant imagine what the higher end models sound like..
