macs are probably the best for video editing/rendering. they render so much faster and have a lot more capabilities in the software (final cut pro) than a lot of pc based software uses (pinnacle and sony vegas being the most popular). especially in the case of HD macs shine since some of the HD files can tend to get on the larger side. i have a pretty beast gaming pc and a macbook pro can render circles around my setup. as far as mics the two best bang for your buck brands out there i would use are SHURE and BLUE. the blue snowball and yeti are small and compact and easily setup to capture sound from far away.


i personally use the snowball/pop filter and sound isolator and it works great. no setup required, plug and play with 3 presets on the back for personal recording, music recording and room recording. you can pick them up for under 100 bucks easily
