response to the Op ? first: No lumber yards I know of can or will try and beat a Home depot/Lowes for a normal person. If you have a friend who is a contractor then they might get a discount. My brother owns a moderate construction company and by doing his paperwork and bills when he was without an accountant I noticed that he worked out a discount from a couple lumber yards not a box store.

now for my story:
I was repairing my Father in Laws Deck Today that he built 45 years ago with the decking top being 2x4's lol it is a sight to see would give a township inspector hand cramp from all of the violations. Still more work to do but that will wait till next week.

I was trying to talk him into a composite / Wood mix like I did with the 2nd story on my deck I like to use composite if possible but cost as was mentioned is very high. I built my Staircase (about 20 Steps) using composite for the treads and the rest out of traditional pt lumber that I stained to match the deck.

Only thing is with Trex it is quite bendy and wobbly so if you are using it for treads add an extra stringer in there to keep it from bouncing.
