Tank crew roles aren't separate MOS's, they are assigned as a function of proficiency, training, and rank. When I was in, a new arrival from Ft. Knox (now Benning) got the loader slot. As he developed proficiency and a slot opened, he'd move to driver. Then back to school for PLDC, some training time in the gunner's seat learning how to boresight and acquire targets on the move, promotion to E-5 and a gunner assignment if he was good. After that, BNOC and some time commanding the tank and leading the crew while the TC was on leave...and a promotion to E-6 and a TC slot when one came open. If the guy was really good at gunning, and planned to stay in, I'd put him in for Master Gunner school.
There was at least one re-enlistment before gunner assignment, just based on the time it takes to get there.
