One of the main selling points of the manual 4 door to me, is that it covers the basis of the practical sedan as well as the sporty car for the weekends, but it's commute dependent.
I know me, personally, am along the lines of Bear. Outside of a truck used for towing/plowing/etc, I cannot stand driving automatics. I get nearly as much joy driving a freakin' 13,000 lb International that takes forever to reach 45, let alone 60 as I do in the Camaro with the top up. In the Exploder, I'm constantly cursing the transmission for shifting when there was no need (both up and down).
And before anyone has said anything, I've been in said vehicle on a hill in traffic many times. Oh, and it has no radio or AC. Just a 3 foot tall shifter.
What bear alludes to regarding the other luxuries and things that take the eyes off the road (lane departure warnings, texting, etc) are a bigger culprit than people driving automatics IMO.
